Bill Summary

Federal Election Integrity Act of 2017 This bill amends the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 to make it unlawful for a chief state election administration official to take active part in political management or in a political campaign with respect to any election for federal office over which the official has supervisory authority. This prohibition does not apply to a chief state election administration official regarding a campaign in which the official or an immediate family member is a candidate.

AI Summary

This bill, the Federal Election Integrity Act of 2017, amends the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 to prohibit chief state election administration officials from actively participating in political campaigns for federal office over which they have supervisory authority. This is intended to address a perceived conflict of interest, as such officials are responsible for certifying the validity of elections they may have been involved in campaigning for. The bill defines "active part in political management or in a political campaign" and includes exceptions for when the official or an immediate family member is a candidate. The amendments would apply to federal elections held after December 2017.
