This bill appropriates $1 million from the general fund to the Children, Youth and Families Department to fund an ongoing workforce and professional development program for early childhood educators. The program includes $388,500 for retention incentives to increase the quality of early childhood education for children from birth to kindergarten eligibility, and $611,500 for continuing education and professional development for eligible early childhood educators. The department will contract with a nonprofit entity experienced in promoting quality early childhood education to implement and manage the program, and any unused funds will revert to the general fund at the end of fiscal year 2018.
