This bill establishes the Murder Victim Families Assistance Fund, a separate fund in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The purpose of the fund is to provide financial aid to the immediate families of murder victims, which includes the spouse, children, siblings, parents, stepparents, or legal guardians of the victim, unless they have been charged in the crime. The fund will be financed by voluntary contributions from publishers, authors, movie or television studios, or companies that create books, movies, or TV shows based on murders committed in Massachusetts. The Massachusetts Film Office will notify these individuals and entities of the fund's existence. The Victim and Witness Assistance Board will be the custodian of the fund, responsible for receiving, depositing, and investing the monies, as well as crediting interest and earnings to the fund. The district attorneys will request and distribute monies from the fund to the immediate families of murder victims.
