This bill amends Chapter 32 of the General Laws to provide enhanced disability pensions for public employees who sustain a "violent act injury" while performing their duties. The key provisions are: 1. It defines a "violent act injury" as a serious and permanent personal bodily injury sustained from a violent attack using a dangerous weapon, such as a firearm, knife, or explosive device. 2. It allows members classified in Groups 1, 2, 4, or certain members in Group 3 who are unable to perform the essential duties of their job due to a violent act injury to be retired for accidental disability, with certain conditions. 3. It provides a yearly pension equal to 100% of the member's regular compensation, including benefits and stipends, payable until age 65. After age 65, the member receives 100% of the annual pension as of that date, including cost-of-living increases. If the member predeceases their spouse, the spouse receives 75% of the annual pension for the rest of their life. 4. This enhanced disability pension is not subject to any limitations or restrictions on the member's ability to seek accommodating employment outside of Groups 1-4 of the retirement system.
