This bill aims to amend the independent contractor statute in Massachusetts. It proposes that individuals engaged to conduct store audits or perform mystery shopping services would not be considered "employees" for the purposes of Chapter 149 (Labor and Industries) and Chapter 151 (Minimum Wage) of the General Laws, provided that the service opportunities are offered on a project-by-project basis, the individual can accept or decline them at their discretion, the remuneration is determined on a fixed-fee basis regardless of time worked, and the individual is not restricted from performing similar services for others. The bill also adds a similar exemption for the purposes of Chapter 152 (Workers' Compensation).
