This bill seeks to amend the existing Massachusetts law on child custody arrangements for military personnel. It proposes that a parent's absence, relocation, or failure to comply with custody and visitation orders due to military deployment, mobilization, or temporary duty orders should not be considered in modifying custody or visitation arrangements. The bill also allows the court to issue temporary custody or visitation orders for the duration of the military service member's absence, or to delegate all or part of the visitation rights to a family member or step-parent to ensure the child's continued contact with the deployed parent. Additionally, the bill provides options for the court to hold expedited hearings or allow the military parent to participate electronically if their deployment will affect their ability to appear in person.
