This bill amends a section of the Massachusetts general laws to require telephone companies and wireless carriers to provide call location information to law enforcement agencies or public safety answering points upon request, but only for the purposes of responding to an emergency or situation involving risk of death or serious harm. The bill also allows telephone companies and wireless carriers to establish protocols for voluntarily disclosing call location information, and protects them from liability for providing such information in good faith under this section. The state 911 department is also required to obtain and disseminate contact information from all telephone and wireless companies to facilitate these requests for call location information.
