This bill amends Chapter 265 of the General Laws to increase the penalties for repeat domestic violence offenders. The bill defines "domestic" family or household members as those who are or were married, residing together, related by blood, have a child in common, or have been in a substantial dating or engagement relationship. The bill establishes mandatory minimum sentences for repeat offenders, ranging from 90 days for a second offense to 2 years for a fourth or subsequent offense, with no eligibility for probation, parole, or early release. The bill also requires the court to order the defendant to complete a certified batterer's intervention program, unless the court finds good cause not to do so.
