This bill amends Section 65C of Chapter 32 of the General Laws to expand the definition of "eligible beneficiary" for judicial survivor benefits. The bill allows judges to designate a spouse, former spouse, child, parent, sibling, or other individual as the eligible beneficiary to receive a pension or retirement allowance upon the judge's death, rather than limiting it to just the spouse at the time of retirement or resignation. The bill also allows judges to change their designated beneficiary at any time. Additionally, the bill includes provisions for the distribution of benefits to minor children if the designated beneficiary predeceases the judge. The bill also makes conforming changes to other related sections of Chapter 32.
