This bill creates the Task Force on Maritime Sector Workforce Development to study and develop a description of the maritime sector and maritime sector workforce in Oregon, and to provide recommendations to the State Workforce Investment Board on how to incorporate the maritime sector into the statewide workforce investment system plan. The task force is required to report its findings and recommendations by September 15, 2018, and the task force is sunset on December 31, 2018. The bill also declares it is the policy of the state to promote the coordinated provision of education, employment, economic development, and job training to support the continuing economic health of the maritime sector in Oregon and provide opportunities for Oregonians to acquire family wage jobs in the maritime sector.
