This bill amends Florida Statute 324.242 to expand an existing exemption from public records requirements to include the personal identifying information and insurance policy numbers of insureds and former insureds held by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles regarding insurance policies providing medical payments coverage, bodily injury liability coverage, property damage liability coverage, and, for policies entered into before January 1, 2018, personal injury protection coverage. The bill also provides for future legislative review and repeal of the exemption. The Legislature finds that this exemption is necessary to protect customer information, prevent fraud, and ensure public safety on Florida's roads and highways by maintaining the confidentiality of information insurers are required to provide to the department.
