This bill amends Section 89 of Chapter 71 of the General Laws to require that commonwealth charter school applications receive the approval of either the elected local or regional school committee(s), or the voters of the school district(s) or regional school district(s) at town meetings or general elections, in order to be funded under the provisions of this section. The bill also provides alternative approval pathways, such as through the elected school committee, town meetings, city council and mayor, or a general biennial state election. The bill applies only to commonwealth charter school applications submitted after the act becomes effective.
