Bill Summary

Relative to patient choice of health care providers. Financial Services.

AI Summary

This bill amends the Massachusetts General Laws to prohibit health insurance carriers and Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) from excluding licensed health care providers from their networks if the provider is located within the geographic coverage area of the health plan and is willing to meet the carrier's or ACO's participation terms and conditions, as long as such measures are imposed equally on all providers in the same class. The bill also requires carriers and ACOs to provide written notice to a denied provider explaining the basis of the denial and the specific terms and conditions the provider does not satisfy. The Office of Patient Protection is granted authority to enforce these provisions.
