Bill Summary
Relative to local control of marijuana establishments. Marijuana Policy.
AI Summary
This bill grants cities and towns the ability to refuse to permit the creation and operation of marijuana establishments within their jurisdiction, but only if the majority of the town's voters opposed the legalization of recreational marijuana and the town does not have a registered medical marijuana dispensary. Additionally, the bill allows local cities and towns to impose zoning ordinances for the location of retail marijuana establishments, and if a town does not impose its own zoning ordinance, a default zoning ordinance from the Department of Public Health will apply, requiring retail marijuana establishments to be at least 500 feet from areas where children commonly congregate.
