This bill proposes to increase the penalties for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident. Specifically, it amends the existing law to change the punishment for leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury from imprisonment for not less than six months nor more than two years to imprisonment in the house of correction for not more than two and one-half years or imprisonment in the state prison for not less than two and a half years nor more than five years. Additionally, the bill increases the punishment for leaving the scene of an accident involving death from imprisonment in the state prison for not less than two and one-half years nor more than ten years to imprisonment in the state prison for not less than two and one-half years nor more than fifteen years. The bill also adds a provision allowing for an indictment or complaint for leaving the scene of an accident involving death to be brought at any time after the commission of the offense.
