This bill, the Territories Medicare Prescription Drug Assistance Equity Act of 2017, aims to make certain subsidies available to Medicare prescription drug program beneficiaries who reside in Puerto Rico or another U.S. territory. Under current law, these beneficiaries are ineligible for premium and cost-sharing subsidies, but the bill eliminates this exclusion and makes the subsidies available to eligible beneficiaries residing in U.S. territories. The bill also amends the Social Security Act to remove the provision that required U.S. territories to apply for financial assistance to provide Medicare prescription drugs, making the subsidies automatically available to eligible beneficiaries.
