Bill Summary
Relative to imitation firearms. Public Safety and Homeland Security.
AI Summary
This bill amends the definition of "imitation firearm" in Massachusetts law to include any device that substantially duplicates or can be perceived as an actual firearm, unless it is marked with a non-removable orange stripe on the barrel and handle. The bill prohibits the import, manufacture, sale, or distribution of such imitation firearms within the state, except for use in interstate commerce, theatrical productions, or museum displays. Existing imitation firearms legally purchased prior to the bill's effective date can only be used on private property not in public view or for authorized purposes. The bill also allows existing paintball and airsoft facilities to continue renting imitation firearms that they owned prior to the bill.
