This bill requires insurance coverage for hospital or ambulatory center charges and the administration of general anesthesia by a licensed anesthesiologist or certified registered nurse anesthetist for certain dental procedures performed on children seven years of age or younger who are unable to receive the needed dental treatment in an outpatient setting, children 12 years of age or younger with documented phobias or mental illness whose dental needs are complex and urgent, and individuals with exceptional medical circumstances or developmental disabilities that place them at serious risk. The coverage may be subject to prior authorization and restricted to care provided by certain dental specialists, but it does not require coverage for the dental procedures themselves. The bill applies to all health insurance policies offered, issued, or renewed on or after the effective date.
