This bill establishes the John J. Marchi government studies scholarship program for students enrolled in government or government-related studies at the City University of New York (CUNY). The scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis and cover tuition, mandatory fees, and average non-tuition costs, up to a maximum of $20,000 per year. To be eligible, applicants must be New York state residents, enrolled in a degree program in government or government-related studies at a CUNY school, and agree to provide at least 12 academic credit hours per year for four years after completing the degree program. The total annual cost of the program is capped at $2 million. If a student fails to receive the degree as required, the scholarship will be converted to a student loan with an interest rate determined by the corporation.
