This bill provides an exception from the excise tax on deeds or other instruments that transfer or convey homestead property or interests in homestead property between spouses. Specifically, the bill exempts such transfers or conveyances from the tax if the only consideration is the amount of a mortgage or other lien encumbering the property and the transfer or conveyance is recorded within 1 year after the date of the marriage. This exception applies to transfers from one spouse to another, from one spouse to both spouses, or from both spouses to one spouse.
