This bill grants an exception from the volume requirements for diagnostic cardiac catheterization procedures and ischemic heart disease diagnoses for certain hospitals providing adult cardiovascular services. Specifically, it exempts hospitals located more than 100 road miles from the closest Level II adult cardiovascular services program from meeting the minimum volume requirements, as long as they demonstrate they have performed a minimum of 100 adult inpatient and outpatient diagnostic cardiac catheterizations or discharged/transferred at least 300 patients with the principal diagnosis of ischemic heart disease. These hospitals are also exempted from the 60-minute transfer time protocol requirement, provided they have a formalized written transfer agreement with a hospital that has a Level II program.
