NIH must establish the Pain Therapy Screening Program to award grants to support the development of new pre-clinical models for pain disorders, and the application of these models in drug, device, or other therapy screening.

AI Summary

This bill establishes and provides $5 billion in funding for the Opioids and STOP Pain Initiative at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The initiative will support research on understanding pain, developing new therapies for chronic pain and alternatives to opioids, improving medication-assisted treatment and overdose reversal treatments, and other elements of the federal government's strategy to address the opioid crisis. The bill also creates a Pain Therapy Screening Program at the NIH to develop new pre-clinical models for pain disorders and test new drug, device, or other therapies.
