The bill is intended to protect the physical and psychological well-being of minors, including LGBTQ youth, from the serious harms associated with such practices, which can include depression, shame, and suicidal behavior according to research. The bill would subject licensed professionals who violate this prohibition to disciplinary action by their licensing authority.
