This bill requires school districts to conduct a security risk assessment at each public school site within the district and use a format prescribed by the Department of Education to conduct a self-assessment of the district's current safety and security practices. Based on these assessments, the district school superintendent must provide recommendations to the district school board on strategies and activities to improve school safety and security. Annually, the district school board must receive the self-assessment results in a public meeting to allow the public to hear the board's discussion and action on the report findings. The district school superintendent must then report the self-assessment results and the school board's action to the commissioner within 30 days after the meeting.
