This bill proposes to raise the minimum wage in Massachusetts in incremental steps, from $11.00 per hour as of January 1, 2017, to $15.00 per hour by 2022. It would also increase the minimum cash wage for tipped employees from $3.75 per hour to $9.00 per hour by 2022. Starting in 2023, the bill would require the Commissioner of the Department of Labor Standards to annually adjust the minimum wage and tipped employee minimum cash wage based on the increase in the Consumer Price Index. Additionally, the bill would deem the Department of Early Education and Care as the employer of family child-care providers for the purposes of the minimum wage law, and require the Attorney General to determine substantially equivalent minimum rates for these providers.
