This bill would establish a paid family and medical leave insurance program in Massachusetts. It would allow covered workers to take up to 16 weeks of family leave to care for a new child or a seriously ill family member, or up to 26 weeks of medical leave to address their own medical conditions. Covered workers would receive 90% of their average weekly earnings, up to $1,000 per week, during their leave. Employers and employees would contribute 0.63% of each employee's annual wages to a trust fund that would finance the program. The bill would create a new Department of Family and Medical Leave to implement and administer the program.
