This bill amends existing Massachusetts law to require public employers to provide at least the same level of workplace safety and health protections as the federal Occupational Safety and Health Act. It establishes an occupational health and safety hazard advisory board to evaluate injury and illness data, recommend safety measures, and monitor the effectiveness of safety programs for public employees. The Department of Labor is tasked with promulgating regulations to enforce these provisions, in consultation with the advisory board, and the Attorney General may bring civil actions to enforce the law, which is set to take effect on February 1, 2019.
