This bill adds to and amends existing law to provide for the installation of an ignition interlock system for certain persons who are convicted of driving under the influence. The key provisions of the bill include: - Requiring the mandatory installation of a state-approved ignition interlock system, at the offender's expense, on all motor vehicles operated by the offender for a period of one year following the end of the license suspension period, unless an exception is granted by the court. - Allowing the court to determine that an offender is eligible to utilize available funds from the court interlock device and electronic monitoring device fund for the installation and operation of an ignition interlock device based on evidence of financial hardship. - Expanding the circumstances under which an ignition interlock system is required, including for certain refusals to submit to evidentiary testing and for certain repeat offenders. - Imposing additional penalties and requirements related to the installation and use of ignition interlock systems for persons convicted of driving under the influence offenses.
