This bill would establish a Statewide public plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) charging system. It directs a working group of various state agencies to develop a plan for installing at least 600 public direct current fast chargers (DCFC) and Level 2 public community chargers at 300 locations by the end of 2020. The bill also requires the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and South Jersey Transportation Authority to install DCFC and Level 2 chargers at their service areas, and the Department of Transportation to designate travel corridors and establish signage for the charging infrastructure. Additionally, the Board of Public Utilities is tasked with creating an "Essential Public Charging Network" to provide a critical mass of reliable, accessible, and convenient public charging stations to address range anxiety and support early PEV market development.
