This bill establishes a pilot project to provide funding for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in volunteer first responders, including firefighters, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, and police. The pilot project will cover the initial medical appointment for diagnosis and the first eight hours of recommended therapy, promote prevention and awareness, identify issues with opioid and substance abuse, and focus on prevention, intervention, and recovery. The commissioner of health is required to apply for any available federal grant funding for this pilot project, and the bill appropriates a specific amount of funding from the general fund for the purposes of the project.
