Bill Summary
Safe Disposal of Unused Medication Act
AI Summary
This bill, the Safe Disposal of Unused Medication Act, would amend the Controlled Substances Act to allow employees of qualified hospice programs or emergency medical services professionals to handle controlled substances in the residence of a hospice patient to assist in the disposal of those substances, either after the patient has died or if the substance has expired. The bill defines the requirements for a "qualified hospice program" and exempts employees of such programs from having to register with the Drug Enforcement Administration to handle the controlled substances for the purpose of disposal. This would provide a safe and legal way for hospice providers to help dispose of unused controlled medications in the homes of their patients.
