This bill, the FIND Trafficking Act (Fight Illicit Networks and Detect Trafficking Act), directs the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to conduct a study on how virtual currencies and online marketplaces, including the dark web, are used to facilitate sex and drug trafficking, particularly the trafficking of opioids and synthetic opioids like fentanyl. The study will examine how these technologies are used to buy, sell, or finance goods and services related to trafficking, how illicit funds are laundered into the U.S. banking system, the participants involved in these activities, and the efforts of federal and state agencies to impede these illicit activities. The bill also explores how the unique characteristics of virtual currencies can be used to detect and deter these crimes. The GAO is required to report its findings and recommendations to Congress within one year of the bill's enactment.
