This bill increases the number of hours a retiree collecting a pension can work for a government entity from 960 hours to 1,200 hours. The governor supports the idea of providing municipalities with more flexibility in staffing decisions, but believes this legislation goes too far in allowing employees to work nearly full-time while collecting a pension without any corresponding changes to improve the current practice. Therefore, the governor is returning the bill unsigned, but approving the remainder of the act.
