Ensuring Lasting Smiles Act
AI Summary
This bill, the Ensuring Lasting Smiles Act, amends the Public Health Service Act, the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), and the Internal Revenue Code to require group and individual health insurance plans to provide coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of congenital anomalies or birth defects, including any services necessary to functionally improve, repair, or restore any affected body part to achieve normal function or appearance, as determined by the treating physician. The bill defines the term "treatment" and excludes coverage for cosmetic surgery. The amendments made by this bill would apply to group health plans for plan years beginning on or after January 1, 2018, and to individual health insurance coverage offered, sold, issued, renewed, or in effect on or after that date.
