Bill Summary

To ensure the safety and soundness of the Commonwealth’s natural gas infrastructure

AI Summary

This bill aims to ensure the safety and soundness of the Commonwealth's natural gas infrastructure. It amends existing law to require that engineering plans or specifications for work that could pose a material risk to public safety, as determined by the Department of Public Utilities (DPU), developed by or on behalf of a gas company, must bear the stamp of approval of a professional engineer certified under Massachusetts law. The bill also allows the DPU to promulgate regulations to implement this new requirement and the related exemption from a provision that would otherwise allow certain gas company engineering work to be performed without professional engineer approval.
