This bill establishes the "Missouri Food Waste Law." It requires businesses with annual food sale revenues exceeding $5 million, including producers, distributors, wholesalers, grocery stores, retailers, and restaurants, to donate 10% of their excess food (food that is still fit for human consumption but would otherwise be discarded) to needy individuals or nonprofit organizations. The bill also prohibits intentionally rendering food inedible to evade compliance and imposes a fine of up to $25,000 for violations. The Department of Health and Senior Services is tasked with monitoring compliance and conducting audits as necessary. The bill provides liability protections for businesses that donate food in good faith.
