This bill, the Reproductive Health Care Act, prohibits the state of Rhode Island from interfering with a woman's decision to prevent, commence, continue, or terminate a pregnancy prior to fetal viability. It also restricts the state from limiting the use of medically recognized methods of contraception or abortion, or the manner in which they are provided. The bill defines "fetal viability" as the stage of gestation where the attending physician determines there is a reasonable likelihood of the fetus' sustained survival outside the womb. The bill does not abrogate existing laws related to abortion and contraception in Rhode Island.
