This bill establishes a merit time allowance credit program and an administrative privileges credit program for eligible inmates in local correctional facilities in New York. The merit time allowance credit program allows eligible inmates to earn credits that can be applied to reduce the time they must serve on their sentences. The administrative privileges credit program allows inmates who are ineligible for the merit time allowance credits to earn credits that can be used to obtain certain administrative privileges at the discretion of the sheriff. The bill also amends the Penal Law to include any merit time allowance credits accrued in a local correctional facility as part of the jail time credit that can be applied to a sentence.
