This bill amends the Executive Law to allow certain inmates aged 55 or older who have served at least 15 years of their sentence to be eligible for parole, even if they have not completed the minimum sentence imposed by the judge. The bill requires the Board of Parole to conduct a hearing to determine if the inmate can be released to community supervision without violating the law and if their release is compatible with public welfare. If parole is denied, the inmate must be informed in writing of the reasons and given a new hearing date within 24 months. If parole is granted, the Board will set the release conditions.
