This bill establishes a task force on safety in school transportation to review and promote such safety. The task force will have 18 members appointed by the governor, the Senate President, and the Assembly Speaker, and will include state commissioners or their designees, as well as education and community stakeholders, parents, teachers, administrators, and school bus personnel. The task force will study and make recommendations on various aspects of school bus safety, such as existing laws and regulations, the need for a state-level review process, safety measures, school bus stop designations, pedestrian safety, and driver and aide protocols. The task force will also develop a plan to implement any recommended safety improvements and determine if additional public education programs are needed. The task force will produce a final report by December 31, 2020 with its findings and recommendations.
