This bill requires social media platforms to display a warning message every time an account holder accesses their social media account. The warning message must state that "SOCIAL MEDIA USE IS ADDICTIVE. EXCESSIVE USE OF MOBILE DEVICES AND SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS MAY LEAD TO MENTAL HEALTH DISORDERS, REDUCED PRODUCTIVITY, LACK OF SLEEP, AND SOCIAL ALIENATION." The bill also requires retail dealers of mobile devices in Minnesota to provide this same warning to purchasers of mobile devices. The Attorney General is responsible for enforcing these requirements, which are set to take effect on January 1, 2020.
