This bill establishes a Latina suicide prevention task force in New York. The task force will consist of seven members appointed by the Governor, legislative leaders, and the Commissioner of Mental Health. The task force will study current mental health and suicide prevention practices, recommend ways to increase effectiveness, and determine potential reasons for the high number of Latina suicides. The task force may establish advisory committees and request studies from state agencies. The task force will provide preliminary and final reports with findings, conclusions, recommendations, and legislative proposals to the Governor and Legislature. The bill will take effect 60 days after becoming law and expire 2 years after the effective date.
