This bill amends the education law to allow the city school district of the city of Syracuse to implement a pilot program for up to five school years, starting in the 2019-2020 school year, to provide transportation services for children in kindergarten through grade 5 who reside within the district and live one mile or more from the school they legally attend. The transportation services will be provided to and from the children's homes or before/after-school child care locations, up to a distance of 15 miles, and will be offered equally to all eligible children in the district. The district is required to report on the results of the first four years of the program, including cost and benefit analyses and impacts on student attendance and academic performance.
