This bill amends existing laws to enhance protections for elders and persons with disabilities. It expands the definition of "assisted living residence" and "personal care services provider" within the law. It also broadens the list of mandatory reporters required to report abuse, mistreatment, neglect, or misappropriation of patient/resident property to include personal care services providers, nurse practitioners, and registered dieticians. Additionally, the bill requires assisted living residences and homemaker agencies to check the abuse registry before hiring employees, and empowers the Department to suspend the right of individuals found to have abused, mistreated, neglected, or misappropriated patient/resident property from working as caregivers. The bill also establishes permanent suspensions for individuals convicted of crimes arising from abuse reports.
