This bill amends a law related to the processing, possession, and sale of lobsters in Massachusetts. The key provisions are: 1) It allows the on-shore processing of live lobsters of legal size into frozen shell-on lobster parts or tails, as well as the importation of unfrozen shell-on lobster parts or tails by licensed wholesale dealers. These processed frozen or unfrozen lobster products can then be possessed, sold, or offered for sale by wholesale dealers, retail dealers, and food establishments, and can be possessed by consumers. 2) The processing, possession, or sale of these lobster products is limited to those weighing 3 ounces or more. 3) The packaging of these processed lobster products must be labeled in accordance with applicable federal and state laws and regulations. 4) The Division of Marine Fisheries is required to promulgate regulations to maintain enforcement of conservation rules and ensure only legally sized lobsters are taken.
