This bill aims to protect the privacy of crime victims by making confidential and privileged all records and information received, obtained or maintained by the division in connection with any claim for crime victim compensation. However, the bill does allow for limited disclosure of such records and information in certain circumstances, such as for processing a claim, responding to a court action, exchanging information between the claimant and the division with the claimant's consent, responding to a request for legitimate criminal justice purposes, complying with rules of criminal procedure for mandatory discovery or production of exculpatory or privileged records, or upon a lawful court order.
