AI Summary
This bill, the Connecting Opportunities through Mobility Metrics and Unlocking Transportation Efficiencies Act (COMMUTE Act), directs the Department of Transportation to carry out an accessibility data pilot program. The purpose of the pilot program is to develop or make available an accessibility data set for states, metropolitan planning organizations, and rural planning organizations to improve their transportation planning by measuring the level of access to important destinations such as jobs, healthcare facilities, child care services, educational and workforce training facilities, affordable housing, and food sources. The Secretary of Transportation will select 5 states, 10 metropolitan planning organizations (5 serving areas with populations of not more than 200,000 and 5 serving areas with populations of 200,000 or more), and 5 rural planning organizations to participate in the program on a competitive basis. The Secretary will then develop or acquire the accessibility data sets and provide them to the selected entities, as well as make them available to local governments within the participating entities' jurisdictions and to researchers.
