This bill amends the Education Code to extend the tuition and laboratory fee exemption for firefighters to also include paramedics employed by a political subdivision of Texas. The bill requires the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to adopt rules prescribing the necessary educational attainment or certification level for paramedics to qualify for the exemption, as well as rules related to the exclusion of distance education courses from the exemption. The bill applies beginning with the 2019 fall semester, and takes effect immediately if it receives a two-thirds vote in the legislature, or otherwise on September 1, 2019.
