This bill establishes the New York State Muslim American Advisory Council, which will advise the legislature on ways to advance the role and civic participation of Muslim Americans in New York. The Council will recommend strategies to better integrate Muslims in New York socially, educationally, culturally, and economically, and will facilitate relationship-building in the Muslim community to achieve goals related to international commerce. The Council will consist of ten members appointed by the legislature and the governor, and will meet regularly to present an annual report with factual findings, progress analyses, and recommendations regarding the implementation of state programs and services affecting Muslim Americans in New York.
