This bill allows cities and towns in Massachusetts to establish truck exclusions on municipal roads, provided that an alternate route is available that can safely accommodate the additional truck traffic. The bill defines a "truck" as a heavy commercial vehicle with a carrying capacity of more than 2.5 tons. The city or town can consider factors such as the volume and condition of the pavement, land use, and the characteristics of the excluded and alternate routes when determining the exclusion. Trucks making deliveries or performing maintenance on the excluded route are exempt from the exclusion. Violating the exclusion can result in a fine of up to $100.
